Lycaonx Wolfsbane His Destined Mate Chapter 3:
Linnea’s POV
Elara needed to find a way to escape from an agreement she had made with her Alpha. She knew she admired him, respected him, but she couldn’t understand how a grown man could propose a marriage arrangement without love included.
Even though Elara found his reasons logical, it couldn’t shake the idea that he was arrogant and a bit selfish. All of this reinforced my theory that men didn’t know what love was. “But really! Arranged marriages haven’t existed for centuries,” I thought.
I looked around, and there was no movement. That wasn’t normal, especially since I was already close to the houses; with their sense of smell, they would have found me by now. In a few hours, it would be dark, and I didn’t want to be alone there during the night. If I had thought of that earlier, the wolf growling behind me would have appeared faster, for sure. I turned slowly, without sudden movements, hoping it wasn’t just a wolf. “Damn! I had never thought of that.” Now, I was scared. How could I tell?
The wolf fixed its gaze on me, growling. I sighed, relaxing a bit with that very human look. Getting up immediately, I looked around. They didn’t usually roam alone, so the others must be somewhere nearby.
As expected, several slowly emerged around me, closing in until I had no escape. I assumed a confident posture and stared intently at the first one that had locked eyes with me. He seemed surprised because he stopped growling and returned the gaze.
He approached, and with a mist, a completely naked man appeared in place of the wolf. I gasped, not at what happened, as I had seen Elara change many times, but rather at the well-toned body in front of me.
“You don’t seem as surprised as I am. We were expecting to find Elara. Why are you wearing her clothes?”
“These clothes are mine,” I declared with false innocence.
“No, they’re not,” he replied, inhaling in my direction and then the air. He signaled to two of the wolves who immediately left and grabbed my arm.
His gaze was so intense that I held my breath.
“Where are you taking me?”
“You’ll have to provide some explanations,” he smiled. He was a handsome man with short dark hair and expressive light brown eyes.
“What explanations?”
“Why didn’t you get scared with so many wolves around you? Not a hint of fear? And why do I smell Elara on you and not your scent?”
“My scent? I can explain. I just didn’t wear perfume today,” I showed my teeth in a smile. “Elara lent me her clothes because I forgot to do laundry this week.”
“I hope you’re not as funny with our Alpha; I bet he won’t find it amusing.”
I swallowed hard. I knew he was right.
“I’ve known of your existence for a while, so I wasn’t afraid,” I said as he looked at me, surprised.
I turned around, and the wolves following us kept their eyes on me. They didn’t growl, but they came close enough.
“How long have you known we exist?” he asked while grabbing a T-shirt and jeans from behind a tree. He put them on without any inhibition, as if he was proud to be appreciated. I turned my gaze away and bit my lip.
“Does it matter? I can only say that I respect and admire you all very much.”
“Really!” He sounded doubtful.
“Yes,” I insisted. “I think you’re special.”
“You’re contradicting yourself. By making us believe you’re Elara, you disrespect my Alpha and, consequently, the pack.”
“I don’t disrespect anyone, because none of you know me.”
“That doesn’t stop you from helping Elara with something that could harm us.”
“Elara doesn’t see it that way.”
Right?
“No!”
“So, what does she think?”
“She’s just giving your Alpha a chance to be happy, giving him time to find another solution.”
“Why doesn’t she tell him that herself?”
“She must have her reasons,” I grumbled.
“She shouldn’t have run away,” he sighed. “She should have talked; he’s going to be furious.”
“She didn’t run away,” I retorted. “She’s not a coward.”
“Do you really think so?”
“I’m sure. When I was attacked, she defended me, didn’t run, even though she could have,” I said, annoyed. “I also don’t agree with what they want to do; I don’t think it’s fair.”
He looked surprised.
“Well, that’s a pack matter.”
“It might be, but Elara saved my life. I’ll do whatever it takes to see her happy; she just has to ask.”
He looked at me, perplexed.
“Were you attacked by a wolf?” he asked, concerned.
“No, it was a brute who thought he’d get lucky that night.”
“I understand your loyalty to Elara, but that doesn’t justify involving a human girl in our affairs.”
“Of course, it does! Now it’s my turn to repay her by saving her from a marriage she doesn’t want with an arrogant guy who must think he’s living in the eighteenth century,” I said with pride and a firm voice.
“I’m even afraid of your meeting.”
“What meeting?”
He had just finished dressing and grabbed me by the arm again, leading me to the forest’s exit.
“The meeting between your sharp tongue and my Alpha’s temper,” he said, smiling.
At that moment, it was me who didn’t find it amusing. I began to feel a stomachache as soon as I caught sight of the first house in the Pack.
